Old Church Barn, East Somerton mixes modern and rustic charm
This barn conversion is tucked away in a small village near the Norfolk Coast. Despite the fact it is an old converted barn is has a very modern interior. It is very light and airy inside and has an open plan dining and kitchen area and a private outside dining area fully enclosed by a brick wall to its boundary. I had photographed other developments by the same owner previously and I knew the standard of finish would be top quality as it is on all of their builds. This particular property is a holiday let. In the principal bedroom every square foot was utilised to fit in as much storage as possible so I made sure I got all of this in the shot.

The principal bedroom has lots of storage
The open plan layout adds an airy feel to the property and it has a wonderful combination of modern design and characterful features such as the old timber beams. I had to include all of this in my dining area image so I was careful with my composition. Every photograph composed to show off at least one feature and quite often two or three. I also found a way to include the view through to the entrance hall in this shot to maximise the impact and demonstrate the flow of the property.

The dining area is open plan with a view through to entrance hall
Outside there is a patio table and chairs all fully enclosed within a brightly rendered brick wall. The alfresco dining area is outside the living room and had bifold door access. I composed my shot to show both the dining area and the bifold doors to demonstrate the dynamic. I was very pleased to get a wonderfully bright and sunny day as this property really comes to life in the sunshine.

One of the nice touches is the wood burning stove. It is double sided so can be seen from both the living room and the dining area. I got a detail shot of this and included a part of the bifold doors leading to the patio and a decorative arrangement to balance the shot. I believe that every image should have a deliberate purpose and must show a feature that is important to the customer - a close up of some flowers in a vase tells you nothing about the property but a dining table with a vase of flowers shows where you can eat your evening meal as well as looking nice with the flowers!
